Amber
Amber is not a mineral but fossilised tree resin — and yet since the Stone Age one of the most coveted materials for jewellery. Baltic amber matured some 44 million years ago; occasionally it carries insects or plant fragments as enclosed witnesses of time.
The largest deposits lie along the Baltic Sea, others in the Dominican Republic. Along the ancient amber road the stone travelled south since prehistory; the Greeks called it “electron” because it builds an electrostatic charge.
The palette runs from delicate honey yellow to deep cognac. Inclusions are coveted and make every piece unrepeatable. To clarify cloudy stones, heating is occasionally used — a disclosed, traditional treatment.
For millennia amber has stood for sun and life; as “Brennstein” (burning stone) it gave the German language its name. It accompanies a warm, natural way of living.
Very soft at Mohs 2 to 2.5: lukewarm water only, no chemicals or perfumes, store dark and cool. Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing.
Strictly speaking organic, not a mineral — and yet a material of rank for jewellery for millennia, prized by the trade and collectors alike.
Experts recognise genuine stones by density, hardness and behaviour under UV light. Our amber comes from documented sources — with advice, should you wish.
Yes. On request, an independent laboratory certificate (e.g. GRS or Gübelin) can accompany your stone. Talk to us — we arrange the examination before the piece reaches you.
With pleasure. In our own workshop we set the stone into the ring, pendant or earrings of your choice — from the first sketch to the finished one-of-a-kind, including your own design.
